Abstract
Considering the expansion of the tourism industry on the one hand and the importance of sustainable development on the other hand, as well as the need to pay attention to the tourism industry in order to earn income, paying attention to both principles is very important; therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of customer participation and green product innovation on the performance of sports tourism complexes in Guilan province. The research method is descriptive-correlational in terms of type, applied in terms of purpose, and field implementation method. The statistical population of the study included all managers and experts of tourism complexes, those in charge of organizing sports tourism tours, and adventure sports tourists in 1403. The research tools included customer participation questionnaires (Chen et al., 2020), green product innovation (Wang and Zhang, 2020), and performance of sports tourism complexes (Bai and Chang, 2015). The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed through Cronbach's alpha and composite reliability. Also, the face and content validity were confirmed by 13 sports management professors. Path analysis and PLS version 4 software were used to analyze the data. The results showed that tourist participation has a significant effect on the performance (t=2.783) and green product innovation (t=33.004) of tourism complexes in Guilan province. Also, the effect of green product innovation on the performance of tourism complexes in Guilan province was significant (t=10.313). Also, the effect of tourist participation on the performance of tourism complexes through the intermediary of green product innovation was significant (t=9.138). Therefore, it can be said that if sports tourism complexes use green product innovation in their complexes, we can see more tourists being attracted to these destinations and consequently, we can see an improvement in the performance of these complexes in the field of environmentally friendly products and their economic development; therefore, it can be said that the innovation of this research is the investigation of the mediator of Green product innovation on the performance of sports tourism complexes.
