Abstract
The main objective of this study was to study the effect of environmental knowledge on the green purchasing behavior of equestrian competition spectators with the mediating role of ethical commitment to the environment. This was a descriptive correlational study and its statistical population included all spectators of the Gonbad-Kavos autumn equestrian competition in 2024. Based on the proposed method (1995) by Barclay et al for structural equations, the sample size was estimated to be 160 spectators. The tools used to collect research data included the questionnaires of Liang et al (2016) environmental knowledge, Cui et al (2024) ethical commitment to environment (2024) and Kim et al (2013) green purchasing behavior. The face and content validity of the questionnaires were reviewed and confirmed by 5 sports management experts, and the Cronbach's alpha values of the questionnaires were 0.77, 0.82, and 0.79, respectively, in a preliminary study, indicating their appropriate reliability. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The findings showed that environmental knowledge has a positive and significant effect on the ethical commitment to the environment of equestrian competition spectators. Another part of the results also indicated that the effect of environmental knowledge on the green purchasing behavior of equestrian competition spectators is positive and significant. Finally, the results of the study showed that the effect of environmental knowledge on the green purchasing behavior of equestrian competition spectators with the mediating role of ethical commitment to the environment is positive and significant. Accordingly, it can be concluded that increasing the environmental knowledge of equestrian competition spectators can have positive consequences such as increasing ethical commitment to the environment and increasing green purchasing behavior in them.
